Public Transport Ticketing Kiosk

Design a public transport ticketing kiosk for a busy station or stop. The interface should let a rider start from a destination, choose a ticket type, pay, and leave with a clear confirmation. Treat this as a touchscreen flow with limited time, no keyboard, and mixed user intent: commuters who know exactly what they want, tourists who need guidance, and riders with accessibility needs. Start with a home screen that exposes the main paths immediately: search destination, select a common route, or buy a standard ticket. From there, show the key decisions in order: one-way vs return, adult vs child vs concession, zones or validity period, then payment. Keep each step focused on one choice set, with the current selection always visible and easy to change before purchase. Include states for payment success, card failure, network delay, and session timeout. If the user gets interrupted, the kiosk should preserve the entered route and ticket choices long enough to recover without starting over. Add large touch targets, readable type at kiosk distance, strong contrast, and a voice guidance option that can be discovered from the first screen. The final screen should confirm what was bought, how much was charged, and what happens next: print ticket, send receipt, or start another purchase. The design should feel fast under pressure and obvious to a first-time rider.

What to deliver

  • Design the kiosk home screen with destination search and common route shortcuts.
  • Design the ticket selection flow with fare, passenger type, and validity options.
  • Design payment, confirmation, and receipt screens.
  • Show accessibility-first controls: large targets, high contrast, and voice guidance entry.
  • Include error, timeout, and cancel states that preserve the user’s progress.

Incorporate real-time updates and prompts within your mockup to guide users through any service changes or delays.
