Onboarding
Design a first-run onboarding flow for a new product. Treat it as the path from opening the app to reaching a usable account, not a marketing tour. The flow should introduce the product, collect only the minimum setup needed, and get the user to the first meaningful action fast.
Build 3–5 screens that cover: a short value intro, account creation or sign-in, one or two setup questions, and a final handoff into the product. Keep copy tight. Each screen should answer one question and move the user forward without forcing them to read a wall of text.
Show progress clearly so the user knows how many steps are left. Include skip, back, and continue actions, but keep one primary action dominant on each screen. If you include permissions or optional setup, make the choice obvious and easy to defer.
What to deliver
- Design a 3–5 step onboarding flow for a first-time user.
- Include one screen that explains the product value in plain language.
- Add one step for account setup or sign-in.
- Show progress through the flow with a clear step indicator.
- Provide a skip option and a clear way to continue.
Tip: Use progressive disclosure in your onboarding design—introduce the most important information first, then allow users to 'dig deeper' for more details. This keeps the experience light and focused.
