In-flight Entertainment System

Design the passenger-facing in-flight entertainment system for a seatback screen or tablet-sized display. The interface should cover the full trip flow: landing on the home screen, finding content, starting playback, and checking flight details without making the user dig through nested menus.

Prioritize a layout that works in a cramped, low-light setting with limited attention and occasional interruptions. Keep primary destinations visible: movies, TV, music, games, and flight information. Search should be fast and forgiving, with clear filters and obvious result grouping. If a user returns to a title, the system should restore their place and make resume the default action where it applies.

Show the key content states, not just the happy path. Include a title detail page, a playback screen, and at least one recovery state such as no internet, content unavailable, or a paused session after seat movement or interruption. The design should make the next step obvious at every point, whether that is continue watching, switch content, or return to the main menu.

What to deliver

  • Design the home screen with entertainment, flight info, and account entry points.
  • Create a browse view for movies, TV, music, and games with clear categories.
  • Design search and filter states for finding titles fast on a small screen.
  • Show a title detail page with play, trailer, and save/resume actions.
  • Include a playback screen with transport controls and a visible progress state.
  • Add at least one system state such as no connection, locked content, or unavailable media.

Infuse some fun by including unique or unexpected elements, like a trivia game about the airline's destinations or an interactive map to explore the journey!
