Design a privacy settings experience for a product that collects user data. The interface should make it easy to review what’s shared, change defaults, and understand the impact of each choice without reading a policy page.
Show the main privacy controls in one place: profile visibility, data sharing with third parties, personalization, and communication preferences. Each control should explain its current state and what happens when it changes. Avoid vague labels like “privacy” or “security” on their own.
Add one consent flow for a sensitive permission, such as location access, analytics opt-in, or sharing activity with teammates. The flow should state the request in plain language, offer a clear accept/decline choice, and keep the user in context if they choose to review details first.
Include a change-confirmation state and a small history or audit view so users can see recent permission updates. The design should feel calm and readable, with clear hierarchy and enough detail to make the safest option easy to choose.
What to deliver
- Design a privacy settings screen with grouped controls for data sharing, personalization, and account visibility.
- Show at least one consent flow with clear opt-in and opt-out choices.
- Include a data-use explainer that says what is collected, why, and for how long.
- Design one confirmation state for a sensitive change, like public visibility or third-party sharing.
- Add an audit/history view for recent privacy changes or active permissions.
Keep in mind that less is often more when it comes to information collection. Design in such a way that users are only asked for essential information, and always provide clarity on its usage.
