Communications Wheel
Design the in-match communications wheel for a multiplayer game. It opens fast, sits over live gameplay, and lets players send quick pings or voice commands without typing.
The wheel should make common calls like pinging the minimap, asking teammates to follow, or signaling danger feel immediate. Each slice needs to be readable while the player is moving and under pressure.
Treat this as a low-friction team signal tool, not a settings menu. The player should understand what each command does from the label, icon, and placement alone.
Focus on the moment the wheel is held open: selection, cancel, and confirmation all happen in the same space. The design should feel usable with one thumb or stick input and not block the action longer than needed.
What to deliver
- Design the closed trigger state and the opened radial wheel.
- Lay out 6–8 command slices with icons and short labels.
- Show the active slice, release confirmation, and cancel state.
- Include a compact hint for the input method or hold gesture.
- Show how the wheel overlays gameplay without hiding the player’s immediate context.
Use the slice position to imply priority: put the most common commands on the easiest-to-hit directions, and make the center state clearly show what will fire when the player releases.
