Activity views

Design an activity view for a product workspace that records events like comments, file uploads, status changes, sign-ins, and completed tasks. The screen should make recent activity easy to scan, then let the user drill into a single item without losing place in the list.

Use a clear structure for time and type. Group items by recency, and make each row show who did what, what changed, and when it happened. If the product needs a secondary visualization, keep it tied to the same activity data — for example, a compact trend chart or summary counts above the feed.

Include controls for filtering by activity type, date range, and source. New items should be easy to spot, but not so loud that they overpower the rest of the feed. If a row expands, show the extra context inline or in a side panel, with the original summary still visible.

Design the empty, loading, and no-results states as part of the same system. When there is nothing to show, the view should explain why and offer the next action, such as clearing filters or creating the first activity.

What to deliver

  • Design an activity feed with timestamp, actor, action, and target
  • Add grouping for today, earlier, and older activity
  • Include filters for type, date range, and status
  • Show a detail drawer or expanded row for one activity
  • Design an empty state and loading state for the feed

Inject personality into your design! Use theming to reflect the activity type—like vibrant colors for fitness, or calm tones for meditation tracking.
