Setting Up
Design a first-time setup flow for a new product account. The flow should help a user move from sign-up or sign-in into a usable state by collecting only the essentials: account details, a small set of preferences, and any required configuration needed to start.
Keep the flow short and ordered. Each screen should answer one question at a time, with a clear primary action and a visible way to go back. If a step can be skipped, make that option explicit and low-friction. Show progress so the user knows where they are and how much is left.
Include the key states around setup: blank form, inline validation, loading while settings are saved, and a completion state that confirms what was configured and what happens next. If setup fails, preserve the user’s input and point to the exact field or step that needs attention.
What to deliver
- Design a step-by-step setup flow with a clear first step and final confirmation.
- Include one screen for entering required setup details and one for reviewing them before completion.
- Show progress with a stepper, checklist, or similar indicator.
- Add empty, error, and success states for the main setup action.
- Define the primary CTA and the back/skip behavior for each step.
Remember to use contrast and spacing strategically to draw attention to primary actions in each step, enhancing the flow's usability.
